Corporate customers will not be charged the new €5 cancellation fee that MyTaxi is introducing for users of the taxi-hailing app.
After the announcement of the charge led to complaints on social media, MyTaxi emailed corporate customers to assure them that the fee would not apply to customers using a business account.
However, barrister Ronan Lupton questioned whether the charge was legal and said that applying it to one class of customer was discriminatory.
“Corporate accounts, while high revenue and high volume, are most likely to cancel taxis at short notice and cause disruption and loss for drivers,” said Lupton. “This form of discriminatory treatment must be viewed in the context of the affect on consumers, the market and legal requirements.”
